Classics Trip to Greece

19 November 2022

In the words of one of our students, Sofia, on the Year 10-13 Classics trip to Greece…

“On the 19th October, OHS students gathered under the sunflowers at 02:45 am, ready and prepared for the Greek trip! Despite being sleep-deprived, we all made it safely to sunny, hot Athens – a respite from cold, rainy England. Equipped with a microphone, Mr Lonsdale provided humorous commentary throughout the trip, as well as making us all hold our breath in tunnels! We saw many ancient and beautiful sites across the trip; the Temple of Poseidon, the Acropolis, Delphi, the theatre of Epidauros and Mycenae, to name a few. Not only was the architecture of the sites astounding, as well as the scenic views, the rich history and myths surrounding each place made it easy to visualise the past – everyone racing on the running tracks at Olympia is a clear example. Several highlights of the trip included the serene monastery of Saint Hosios Loukas, the delicious and inexpensive lunches from local bakeries and the Greek dancers at Touris – excellent dancing from Dr K…a good effort from Mr South and Mr Lonsdale. Overall, everyone had a thoroughly enjoyable time, I myself, made many new friendships across the year groups. Therefore, it is safe to say that the Greek trip was a wonderful experience that I would highly recommend.”  – Sofia
