Active Learning In Sport

2 June 2020

At OHS, we have always believed that the benefits of taking part in sport extend far beyond just physical fitness.

While conventional PE lessons are not possible, our PE department wanted to ensure that students were still able to access these benefits and enjoy the wellbeing that comes with exercise. The team devised a series of live lessons for the Summer Term, consisting of hand-eye-coordination ball skills followed by an exercise to get the heart-rate going. There have been circuits, African dance, Tabata, Zumba, HIIT workouts, dance circuits, yoga, amongst many others!

Beyond the curricular programme, we are also running separate fitness and skills sessions for our Years 7-13 sports teams, to allow those students to keep their physical and technical ability up. Our Focus Programme, for scholars and elite performers, includes live strength and conditioning sessions as well as discussions on relevant topics. If you’re in need of some sporting ideas or challenges, check out our twitter feed @OHS_Sport for a whole host of motivational posts.
