Our Aim

The aim is to encourage, develop and create a lifelong and positive attitude towards physical activity. This is achieved by offering a dynamic, challenging, diverse and evolving range of sporting activities. Whether a recreational participant or elite performer, all will be inspired, motivated and supported.

The Curriculum

Sport is an integral and important part of the curriculum from Reception to Year 13. The curriculum is balanced and inclusive, with the focus for the older girls on individual student-led learning, with opportunities for coaching and umpiring. We are always looking to extend our range of sporting opportunities in school and this year have introduced rowing, football and cricket.

Facilities

Our facilities include; a 25 metre, six lane indoor swimming pool, a large sports hall, five outdoor netball and tennis courts, extensive fields, which include 3 football pitches in the winter and in the summer term a 400m track and five rounders pitches. We also regularly use the waterbase astroturf pitches at Oxford Hawks Hockey Club, the Ferry Centre fitness suite and squash courts, the Dragon’s austroturf and the climbing wall at Oxford Brooke’s University.

The Junior School have use of these facilities as well as their own sports gymnasium and outdoor netball and tennis courts.

The Sports Department

The Sports Department consists of the Director of Sport, five full-time, two part-time staff and a sports technician. We have the benefit of many visiting specialist coaches who bring their expertise to a wide range of extracurricular activities. Oxford High girls compete in many local, regional and national competitions and tournaments, many of them within the GDST, and have a strong record of success in all.
