SHINE Project

5 May 2015

In 2015, Oxford High School launched a new outreach programme in conjunction with the SHINE Trust. Now entering its third year, the ‘Serious Fun on Saturdays’ programme worked in partnership with local Oxford schools and enabled Year 5 pupils (aged 9-10) from four local Oxford primary schools to attend weekly sessions designed around a Space theme. Topics included learning about the food that astronauts eat in space; the scale of the solar system and the stories hidden in the stars. Each week, the pupils were collected by minibus and enjoyed a morning of fun learning activities with OHS teachers and Sixth Formers before being returned by minibus to their homes. The Sixth Form mentors worked alongside the Oxford High staff and the children to develop their own interpersonal and leadership skills.

Our aim at Oxford High is to help all children aspire, whatever their beginnings and our four partner Heads are very supportive and feedback on programme from the participating families has been fantastic.
