Walk into our Music School and you will instantly feel a warm encouraging atmosphere, see a lively academic approach to learning and hear our commitment to high performing standards.
From Year 7 through to GCSE and A Level, we aim to foster a love of music through composition, performance and guided appreciation of a wide range of styles. Specific coaching is given for Oxbridge entrance and we are very proud that a former OHS pupil, Anna Lapwood, became the first female organ scholar at Magdalen College. We believe in providing opportunities for every student to experience the excitement of performance in our instrumental and vocal ensembles, and make full use of Oxford’s beautiful venues with regular concerts in the Sheldonian Theatre, university chapels and Oxford Town Hall.
Roger Spikes was appointed Director of Music in 1992. He studied at Oxford University, and his interests range from Baroque analysis to world music. Adding to his expertise is a team of 22 visiting music tutors who give around 280 lessons each week on all orchestral instruments, piano and singing.
Oxford High School awards Music Scholarships and Exhibitions at Year 7 and Sixth Form entry.
