At Oxford High Junior School, we attach great importance to our girls’physical as well as academic education. We believe this enhances self-confidence and sporting skills as well as giving them a necessary break from the classroom, a habit which we believe will hold them in good stead throughout their lives.
Sport is an integral part of the OHS curriculum and is taught by specialists from both the Junior and Senior teaching staff . The girls have access to a range of facilities across both sites as well as those in the local Oxford area. Oxford High School has a 25 metre, six lane Indoor Pool in which the girls have weekly lessons. From Year 2, gym or dance are included in the curriculum with PE and swimming. Field sports are football, hockey, rounders and athletics with netball and tennis also included in the outdoor activities.
Regular matches for team sports and swimming galas are organised throughout the year . Being part of the GDST enables the girls to compete at the various rally events organised by The Trust and OHS has led the way on developing girls’ football with its Girls on the Ball programme.
The inter house matches in the Junior School are a source of great excitement and allow every girl to contribute to their house point tally by competing in matches across the range of sports on offer. We are very proud that every Oxford High School girl is able to develop fitness, agility and teamworking skills which enable her to enjoy sport and, if she wishes, represent her school, county and region in whichever sport she loves.
